Coming home, more than anything, re-ignited her passion for community service, which was a major aspect of her upbringing. Having grown up only a few miles outside of Philadelphia, Julia saw, from a young age, the impact of poverty on communities and individuals–especially it’s impact on public health.

Poverty’s impact on women has always caught Julia’s attention. She had seen women sacrifice so much of themselves for their families–including their health. This shouldn’t be a decision any woman should have to make in the world’s wealthiest nation. In today’s economic climate, women’s health initiatives need, more than ever, auxiliary funding and support–and it was so refreshing to come across an organization that does just that!

The 1 in 8 Foundation’s emphasis on promoting not only awareness about breast cancer prevention, but also access to this preventative care is what really drew Julia to the organization. Her hope is to contribute to this innovative organization by supporting fundraising efforts.

Pat Anderson was born in Canton, Ohio in 1980 and moved to Raleigh when she was less than a year old and consider herself a NC native. Pat was introduced to the game of golf by her father and grandfather at a very early age and ever since it has been her passion, favorite hobby and primary source of relaxation! Having grown up the middle child of 3 athletic and very competitive boys she have been involved in almost any sport imaginable. Pat traveled the Southeast as a junior playing in some of the largest golf tournaments around. Although she can not currently compete with the worlds top golfers, she is constantly working on it! For now Pat enjoy traveling to see them play in person at places like Augusta National for the Masters and another favorite stop in Hilton Head, SC for the Verizon Heritage!

Pat received an associated degree in general business studies and have worked professionally in a variety of sales and business related fields. While she enjoy the flexibility of not having to work in a cramped office from 9-5pm everyday she know that in order to be satisfied professionally she really need to do two things. One of which is to be surrounded by something that she am passionate about and the other is to be apart of something much larger than herself, and have the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of as many people as possible.

With a history of cancer in both her family and her fiance’s family ( she am getting married on May 16th of 2009) Pat has a genuine interest in helping to prevent this disease from having any more detrimental impact on any of the very special woman in her life.

In honor of Emily, they co-authored and illustrated a children’s geography book entitled “All Across China” (Chipmunkapublishing, 2009). The book was also written in memory of one of the mothers in their adoption group, who passed away at the age of 39 from breast cancer. Their friend, as well as others close to them who died from the disease, inspired Ken and Ellen to donate the personal proceeds for “All Across China” to breast cancer research, support, and awareness. They are also committed to doing the same with the personal proceeds for Ellen’s young adult novel, “Gathering Roses” (Chipmunkapublishing, 2007) and Ken and Ellen’s children’s geography book, “All Across Canada” (Chipmunkapublishing, 2008). In addition, a portion of personal proceeds are going toward heart disease research and Parkinson’s and dystonia research. For more information about these books, all of which are being sold at a discount on their authors’ website, please visit www.weisberg-yoffe.org .

She started taking riding lessons in Wiesbaden Germany when she 8 years old. Being a military child & moving around a lot, Tammy was never in a position to own a horse. She did continue to take lessons and bought her first horse at 18.

After graduating from college in 1979 and getting married, Tammy entered the world of corporate America. She held several procurement positions, many customer service positions in the Aerospace and the manufacturing industry to include management positions. In addition to Tammy’s corporate career she had a second equestrian part time career. This ranged from training, teaching riding lessons to showing and assisting in the implementation of horse shows. She now owns one quarter horse and two miniature horses.

In early 2004, Tammy left the corporate world to take care of her parents. She lost both of her parents to cancer. Her mother passed in 2006 from throat cancer and the side effects of the treatments. After her mother’s passing, her father who already had Alzheimer’s, developed lung cancer and died in 2008. While taking care of her parents, Tammy continued on with her part time equestrian career with her last position as the Equestrian director for the YMCA.

She looks forward to working for the 1 in 8 foundation. Tammy says being able to help promote early detection of breast cancer in an equestrian environment is the best of both worlds.

Jarrett’s favorite activities include golfing, swimming, running, movies, landscaping and outdoor sporting events. He has been around golf since elementary school and the eternal struggle of fixing the golf swing is the true passion of his life.

Working for investment firms since fresh out of college, Jarrett has learned making money for a company without commission isn’t as fulfilling as making money and getting a piece of it! Jarrett is very organized and future-orientated but enjoys taking risks. Jarrett’s list of non-Corporate credentials are small, but he’s ready to get out there and work hard for himself and for the good of others.
